I Got Flowers Today

The poem is all about a woman who is abused from the beginning. He begins by calling her terrible things that seriously hurt her feelings, then apologizes after the fact.

It's emotional abuse at this point. The abuse then becomes more aggressive. He begins physically abusing her and threatens her life. She then begins to cover herself up in order to conceal what was happening to her behind closed doors. Then her man beat her much more, and she couldn't hide the visible marking on her body, so she called in sick to work.

Then things worsen within their relationship, and she presumably mentions how exhausted she is of all the drama and abuse.
